Art

The objectives of this course are to give students a broad introductory experience to the background, theory and execution of art. These tools will guide their creative development by working with a variety of art media.

Art instruction is provided for Grades 1 – 5 for one class period per week. The Art curriculum consists of completing a series of projects including sculpture, drawing, painting and art cut outs. Students are actively encouraged to contribute to their art curriculum. Art projects have been designed to teach art skills such as line, shape, color, pattern, texture, contrast, perspective, balance, emphasis, and composition. Each student is encouraged to produce artwork that is carefully crafted and unique. Emphasis is placed on effort, original thought and student enjoyment of their artistic creations. Art is a learned skill and even though there is a range of abilities, we believe at AIS all students should be encouraged to express their creativity.
